Davido says he prefers his children to avoid entertainment careers

Award-winning Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that he would prefer his children not to pursue careers in the entertainment industry, despite his own global success in music.

The singer made the disclosure during a widely shared interview on The Breakfast Club, where he spoke candidly about family, legacy, and the challenges he faced before achieving fame.

According to Davido, his ideal plan is for his children to work within the business empire of his father, Deji Adeleke. He explained that this path would offer them greater stability and ease compared to the unpredictable nature of the entertainment world.

“Omo, go and work with my dad,” Davido said, reflecting on his preference. He described how his father finds joy in spending time with his grandchildren, particularly during family gatherings such as Christmas.

The singer noted that observing his father’s happiness and fulfilment influenced his perspective on what truly matters in life. Despite Deji Adeleke’s vast wealth and assets, Davido suggested that family remains his father’s greatest source of joy.

Davido also recounted his own journey into music, revealing that his father initially opposed his decision to pursue an entertainment career. He admitted that the lack of early support was emotionally challenging and affected his motivation at the time.

“My dad not wanting me in entertainment really killed my joy until he saw that I was serious about it,” he explained.

While he expressed a desire for his children to follow a more conventional and secure path, Davido emphasised that he would not impose his wishes on them. He stated that he would still support any of his children who choose to enter the entertainment industry.

The singer added that his daughter has already shown an interest in music, noting her enthusiasm for singing and dancing.

Davido’s remarks highlight the complexities of success in the entertainment industry, as well as the balance many public figures seek between personal experience and the aspirations they hold for their children.
