Edo assembly member presents scorecard, seeks re-election

A member representing Ovia North East Constituency II in the Edo State House of Assembly, Andrew Uzamere, on Friday said he had been able to bring the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people of his constituency.

Uzamere stated this while presenting his scorecard to members of his constituency at Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state.

He said he had been able to do so much due to the opportunity he got to serve and the support he had been given over the years, while seeking re-election to consolidate what he had done for his constituency.

Uzamere, who is a member of the Education Committee in the House of Assembly, said he had provided a West African Examinations Council/National Examinations Council scholarship scheme to over 500 indigent students across all public secondary schools in the constituency, sunk 15 boreholes, built and renovated nine schools with modern toilet facilities and carried out solar electrification projects.

He said, “It will not have been possible if I was not given the opportunity to serve. For the few years I have served in the assembly, I have been able to bring the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people of my constituency.

“So, the mammoth crowd that you see here is a testament to my accessibility, my acceptance, and that they are ready and willing to send me back for another term.

“Just like they have said, one good term deserves another. I want to use this opportunity to thank Governor Monday Okpebholo for finding me worthy, the trust and confidence that he has in me, to ask me to join him, to work.

“So, like I said, I want to reaffirm my commitment, my dedication, my loyalty to him, to his vision, to his mission for the SHINE AGENDA. And I thank him most profoundly for finding me deserving of re-election.

“It is a sacred covenant I have with the people. And I assure them that in the second term, they will get even more than what I’ve done now,” Uzamere said.

He also promised to mobilise his constituency for the 2.5 million votes promised to President Bola Tinubu by the state governor.

Also speaking, a former member representing Ovia North East Constituency II, Bright Osayande, commended the humility and consistency of Uzamere, despite contesting the position for the third time before eventually winning on his fourth attempt.

He lauded his developmental strides within a short while, calling on members of the constituency to rally round him and give him the necessary support to emerge winner at the poll.

On his part, Alex Onaiwu, a House of Assembly aspirant for Ovia North East Constituency II on the platform of the APC, said that, having seen Uzamere’s achievements, he decided to step down to enable him consolidate his achievements.

Commending the lawmaker, the principal of Oghede Secondary School, Omorodion Anthony, said what he had done was enormous for his school.

He said he had constructed nine classroom blocks and provided them with modern toilet facilities.
