Ex- Kano gov, Shekarau dumps PDP

Ibrahim Shekarau, former Kano state governor and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter dated April 19, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Shekarau confirmed that his departure from the party takes immediate effect.
“Accept this letter please as notice of my resignation from my position as member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today,” he wrote.
He explained that the decision was reached after internal deliberations within his political group, adding that it was aimed at pursuing his political future under a different platform.
“This decision follows wide and extensive deliberations within my political group, to pursue our political career in a different political party,” he stated.
Shekarau, a former minister, expressed gratitude to PDP leaders at the ward level for their support during his membership of the party.
“I thank you for being a good leader, and pray that Allah will continue to guide you in your stewardship,” he added.
The resignation letter was also copied to the PDP chairmen in Kano State and Nassarawa Local Government Area, formally notifying party structures of his exit.
