…Tells troops ‘Nigeria must be made safe’

Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered troops of Operation Fansan Yamma to intensify ongoing operations with a view to crushing bandits and criminal elements in the North West.
Oluyede gave the order during an operational visit to the Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, OPFY, Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, yesterday in Abuja.
According to the statement Oluyede also declared that Nigeria must be made safe at all costs.
It added that the visit was aimed at assessing operational readiness, addressing challenges confronting troops, and boosting morale in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the region.
Addressing the troops, CDS commended their resilience, courage, and unwavering sacrifices in the defence of the nation.
Besides, he charged them to remain disciplined, professional, and relentless in prosecuting the fight against banditry and terrorism, the statement read.
Furthermore, the statement quoted him as saying that “The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders.
“You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all costs ”
The CDS then assured personnel of continued support in the areas of welfare, training, and provision of critical operational equipment to enhance effectiveness on the battlefield.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to sustaining pressure on criminal groups until lasting peace is restored across the North West and the country at large.
Oluyede also highlighted the critical role of air power in ongoing operations, noting that efforts are underway to further strengthen operational capabilities through the acquisition of additional platforms and improved inter-theatre coordination.
As part of the visit, the CDS paid a courtesy call on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, where he expressed appreciation for the state government’s sustained support to the Armed Forces.
He also commended the people of Zamfara State for their cooperation and urged continued collaboration, particularly in the provision of timely and credible intelligence.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal lauded the military for the sacrifices and sustained efforts toward restoring peace in Zamfara State and the wider North West region.
The visit featured an operational briefing, interaction with troops, inspection of deployments, and a media engagement.
