Six individuals accused of plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu are set to be arraigned on Wednesday (today) before the federal high court in Abuja.
The Office of the attorney-general of the federation confirmed that thesuspects will appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at noon, marking the first public court session in the high-profile case.
According to court filings, the Federal Government has charged Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, a retired major general alongside five others over their alleged involvement in a failed plot to overthrow the government.
Also listed in the charge are retired Naval Captain Erasmus Victor, Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.
Timipre Sylva, a former minister of state for petroleum resources was also named but is currently set to be at large.
The charges, dated April 20, 2026, and signed by the Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), allege offences including treason, terrorism financing, money laundering, and failure to disclose security intelligence.
Prosecutors claim the defendants conspired in 2025 “to levy war against the state to overpower the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, an offence punishable under Section 37(2) of the Criminal Code.
The government further alleged that the suspects shared more than ₦71 million among themselves to fund the alleged operation.
They are also accused of having prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving other individuals but failing to inform authorities or take steps to prevent it.
