Kano Assembly confirms Murtala Garo as deputy gov

The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following a formal screening process conducted during plenary.

The confirmation took place under the leadership of the Speaker, Jibril Falgore, who presided over the session in which lawmakers deliberated on Garo’s nomination.

His appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, which created a vacancy in the state’s executive structure.

Presenting the report of the ad hoc committee tasked with screening the nominee, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the committee, Muhammad Bello, explained that the process was conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions.

He cited Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers a state House of Assembly to confirm a nominee for the office of Deputy Governor in the event of a vacancy.

According to Bello, the screening exercise was thorough and comprehensive, with Garo responding to a wide range of questions posed by lawmakers.

He also outlined plans to support the policies and programmes of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, signalling readiness to work collaboratively in advancing the state’s development agenda.

Following the presentation of the committee’s findings, members of the Assembly unanimously adopted the report and approved Garo’s nomination, effectively confirming his appointment.
