Hezbollah said on Tuesday it had carried out a strike on an Israeli settlement, in its first such announcement since a temporary ceasefire between the two sides came into effect.
In a statement, the Lebanese group said its fighters targeted an Israeli army artillery position in the settlement of Kfar Giladi in northern Israel, using a volley of rockets and a swarm of attack drones.
It added that the site was the source of recent artillery shelling towards the town of Yahmar al-Shaqif in southern Lebanon, saying the operation was carried out “in defence of Lebanon and its people, and in response to blatant and documented breaches of the ceasefire”.
Hezbollah said the number of Israeli violations of the truce had exceeded 200 since it came into force, including attacks on civilians and the destruction of homes and villages in southern Lebanon.
A temporary ceasefire came into effect last Thursday for 10 days, with the possibility of extension. However, Israel has continued to carry out air strikes and shelling in various parts of southern Lebanon, resulting in deaths and injuries, as well as damage to homes.
