Looming Crisis As ADC Faction Reject Abuja Convention

The factional leadership of the African Democratic Congress,ADC, led by Nafiu Bala Gombe along with Hon Leke Abejide, has disowned the recently conducted National convention held in Abuja describing it as illegal, null and void as well as effort in futility.

Speaking while addressing Journalists in a World Press Conference held yesterday in Abuja, Nafiu Bala Gombe -led faction of ADC along with some prominent leaders of the party accused David Mark faction of impersonation noting that parading themselves as the party’s National Working Committee NWC is equal to spreading fake information adding that such is nothing but a calculated attempt aimed at destabilizing the ADC.

Abejide group further informed that the World Press briefing was very necessary in order to clarify several rummours against the party as well as put the record straight for all Nigerians citizens.

Earlier while presenting his speech, the lawmaker equally explained various ongoing intra party legal disputes in his party nothing that he is one of the oldest part members that should be respected and recognised.

He, however declared the April 14, 2026 Convention held in Abuja as illegal even as he also referred to it as “Suya Convention,” adding that it’s nothing but illegality perpetrated by those who does not wish the party good.

He further alleged that it was the high headedness of ADC faction who refused to listen to the advice of funding members that led the party to the present situation emphasizing that it was totally wrong to go ahead with the Natiomal convention while there are pending court issues.

He described as a prejudice citing violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as Amended.

The group further informed that subsisting court orders from both the Federal High Court and the Supreme Court had before the convention restrained the party pending the determination of those cases before the courts.

According to the opposition ADC members, proceeding with the event was a total defiance of court orders, stating that the exercise was in direct contempt of courts and a direct affront to the judiciary.

On his respond to the purported suspension by David Mark group, Abejide discribed as illegal and delebrate affront on his personality.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker also observed that those perpetrating illegality against him are those that want the downfall of the ADC.

Accordingly, the group also expressed pesimism on factional group who claimed they want to revive ADC going by their antecedent as members of the opposition political party.

He, however used the opportunity to highlight various tangible personal contributions from him to the party growth, most especially in his home State Kogi as well as in his constituency.

He used the occasion to warn leaders of his party against personal and insatiable political ambition noting that continued actions by the rival group could undermine the party’s stability and its ability to field in candidates in the fourth coming 2027 general elections.
