A 35-year-old man, Tobi Sunday, yesterday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over allegations of obstructing a police officer while performing his lawful duty.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, faces a charge of assault. Police prosecutor, ASP Yomi Osuolale, told the court that the alleged offence occurred on March 30 at approximately 9:00 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State. He alleged that Sunday assaulted and obstructed Insp Andah Mohammed during the course of his official duties.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Sections 187(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He requested an adjournment to review the case file and assemble witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. His counsel, Mrs. Blessing Falaye, requested bail, assuring the court that Sunday would not abscond.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Ms. Dolamu Babalogbon granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety of the same amount and adjourned the case to April 9 for hearing.
