Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has launched a blistering attack on Nigeria’s opposition figures, accusing them of hypocrisy, opportunism, and a lack of credible leadership history.
Taking direct aim at Rauf Aregbesola, Mimiko dismissed his recent posture against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as nothing more than bitterness from a man who has lost relevance and influence. According to him, Aregbesola’s opposition is not rooted in patriotism, but in bruised ego and political survival.
On Peter Obi, Mimiko did not hold back, branding him a serial exaggerator whose public image, he claimed, collapses under scrutiny. He alleged that Obi’s celebrated claims of achievements in Anambra do not match realities on ground, accusing him of selling a polished narrative that insiders know is far from the truth.
Mimiko also fired at Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of normalizing dangerous precedents in handling insecurity, arguing that such decisions weakened the state rather than strengthening it.
He described Atiku Abubakar’s economic ideas as reckless, pointing to his past comments about selling national assets as evidence of a mindset willing to mortgage Nigeria’s future for quick fixes.
On Dino Melaye, Mimiko was scathing, portraying him as a symbol of excess and misplaced priorities in a country battling economic hardship.
“These are the voices shouting for power,” Mimiko implied, “yet their records are riddled with contradictions, self-interest, and weak accountability.”
In contrast, he positioned Tinubu as a tested political strategist and administrator whose governance in Lagos, he argued, produced tangible structures and policies that continue to shape Nigeria’s economic nerve center.
Mimiko’s remarks add to the intensifying political rhetoric ahead of future elections, as camps sharpen their attacks and attempt to redefine the credibility battle for Nigeria’s leadership.
