The Nigerian Navy has advanced its indigenous shipbuilding and maritime special operations capability through a strategic engagement with a delegation from the Egyptian Navy Special Forces Brigade.
The engagement, conducted under an ongoing cross-attachment programme, included a visit to the Naval Dockyard Limited (NDL), Lagos, where the delegation was exposed to the Dockyard’s capabilities in depot maintenance, ship design and construction.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, the visit featured technical discussions and facility tours aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening collaboration in indigenous shipbuilding.
He further disclosed that the delegation participated in joint training exercises with the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, focusing on advanced operations such as maritime interdiction, Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), and hostage rescue.
“The training involved complex tactical scenarios, coordinated insertions, and structured debrief sessions for the exchange of operational insights and best practices,” he said.
Folorunsho stated that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, to strengthen indigenous capabilities, enhance operational effectiveness, and deepen defence diplomacy.
He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to building a combat-ready force, promoting regional cooperation, and safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests.
