The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) on Friday disclaimed reports circulating that it is offering scrap materials and equipment from its refineries for sale, describing the claims as false.
In a statement, the company clarified that it has not published any invitations for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or granted approvals for the disposal of refinery parts or warehouse inventory.
“This information is entirely untrue,” said Andy Odeh, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer. “NNPC Limited has not issued any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the sale of scrap materials, refinery components, or any items from the warehouses or inventories of any of its refineries.”

Odeh added that the company has received complaints about individuals posing as NNPC representatives or intermediaries to push fake deals involving “scrap metals” or refinery machinery.
“These persons are not authorized by NNPC Limited and are trying to deceive members of the public,” he stated.
The national oil company urged both individuals and corporate bodies to ignore such solicitations and to verify claims before engaging with anyone purporting to act on its behalf.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” Odeh emphasized.
NNPC Ltd stressed that any legitimate disposal of its assets would only occur through formal, transparent procedures that comply with existing regulations. Such processes, the company noted, would be announced exclusively via its official communication channels.
The company advised anyone approached by persons or groups making these fraudulent claims to alert law enforcement agencies immediately.
The warning comes as part of NNPC Ltd’s effort to protect the public from scams and to maintain integrity around its asset management processes.
