NSCDC ANAMBRA PARTNERS FMBN TO SENSITIZE PERSONNEL ON NATIONAL HOUSING FUND SCHEME

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ( NSCDC) Anambra State Command, in conjunction with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria,( FMBN) has organized a sensitization session to educate personnel on the provisions and benefits of the National Housing Fund Scheme.

Speaking at the interactive session which formed part of the ongoing NHF biometric capturing exercise for officers and men of the Corps on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the State Command Headquarters in Awka, Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant, emphasized the importance of the exercise in ending frustrations associated with accessing mortgage facilities.

He said the sensitization programme was designed to empower personnel with vital information on affordable home ownership opportunities.

Earlier, the Anambra State Branch Manager of FMBN, Mr. Chigozie Okonkwo, noted that every employee is expected to make a mandatory contribution of 2.5 percent of their monthly earnings to the fund, which is managed by the Federal Mortgage Bank.

He said it was necessary to sensitize NSCDC personnel on the housing scheme managed by the FMBN and the need to update their records for seamless processing of refunds upon retirement.

He explained that NSCDC personnel can access housing development loans and individual loans, stressing that housing is a basic human right and a key driver of social and economic development.

“The FMBN has been providing mortgage finance and facilitating home ownership for low- and medium-income earners through its various schemes and products, but you cannot access it if your data with us is incomplete,” he stated.

The FMBN Branch Manager said the bank is developing an automated application for refund processing upon retirement to ease the burden on retirees.
