The Commissioner, Osun State Police Command, Ibrahim Gotan, has commended journalists for their professionalism and urged sustained collaboration in addressing security challenges across the state.
He made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun State Council, to the Police Command headquarters on Thursday.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the NUJ Secretary, Olalekan Akindoju, the visit provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between the media and the police.
Speaking during the meeting, Gotan stressed the “importance of ethical journalism and balanced reportage in fostering public confidence.”
He noted that responsible media coverage plays a critical role in promoting security awareness and preventing the spread of misinformation.
The Commissioner who insisted that, “Osun remains one of the most peaceful states in the country,” assured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He added that the police would not relent in their efforts to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the state.
Gotan reiterated the readiness of the command to work closely with the NUJ, calling for continued support from journalists in tackling insecurity.
The police chief described the visit as “a demonstration of mutual respect and understanding between the media and law enforcement agencies.”
He also commended journalists in the state for their dedication, objectivity, and consistent efforts in informing the public.
In his remarks, the Osun NUJ Chairman, Adeyemi Aboderin, applauded the cordial working relationship between journalists and the police in the state.
He noted that the union is committed to strengthening this partnership, especially before, during, and after the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Aboderin also commended the Commissioner of Police for his efforts in sustaining peace and security across the state.
