A plane crashed southwest of South Sudan’s capital, Juba, on Monday, killing all 14 people on board, the country’s civil aviation authority (SSCAA) said.
The aircraft, which was a Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink lost communication while flying from Yei to Juba International Airport, SSCAA said.
According to SSCAA, the plane took off at 9:15 a.m. and lost contact at 9:43.
The pilot and all 13 passengers lost their lives. Two were of Kenyan nationality, and the other 12 were South Sudanese.
Preliminary reports suggested the aircraft may have crashed due to bad weather, particularly low visibility, SSCAA said.
An SSCAA response team was dispatched to the crash site in order to gather information and support emergency and recovery efforts, the organization added.
