Police arrest 30 suspected kidnappers in Kaduna, recover arms, drugs, stolen vehicles

The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of 30 suspected kidnappers, alongside the recovery of arms, ammunition, stolen vehicles and illicit drugs during coordinated operations carried out across the state in April 2026.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, said the command’s monthly operations also led to the arrest of four suspected gunrunners and six individuals linked to a car theft syndicate.

He explained that security operatives recovered five firearms, including an anti-riot gun, as well as ammunition and several stolen vehicles during the raids.

Muhammad further disclosed that a seven-year-old boy who was abducted in Anchau, Kubau Local Government Area, had been rescued. The child was reportedly kidnapped while returning from school, with his abductors demanding a ransom of N40 million and threatening his life.

According to the police chief, officers from the Anchau Division swiftly launched a rescue mission, which resulted in the victim being found unharmed in Maigana, Soba Local Government Area.

In another development, the commissioner said operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway near the tollgate after engaging suspected bandits.

He also noted that at the Kawo Flyover, officers retrieved a 37/38mm anti-riot gun, along with two short-range shells and one long-range shell, which were reportedly abandoned by a suspect who fled into a nearby cemetery upon noticing the police.

Additionally, a 45-year-old man was arrested in Kurmin Zaki with a locally made AK-47 rifle in his possession.

On the issue of vehicle theft, Muhammad confirmed the arrest of three suspects believed to be part of a syndicate operating across Kaduna, Kano and Katsina states. Another suspect was apprehended with a stolen Toyota Corolla and a Hyundai vehicle.

He added that a separate Toyota Corolla, traced from Kaduna to Katsina State, was also recovered, with one suspect taken into custody in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, in Zaria, police operatives intercepted a suspect carrying 44 wraps of suspected cannabis hidden in a sack during a surveillance operation.

The commissioner said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect is connected to a larger drug trafficking network within or beyond the state.
