The Kano and Benue State Police Commands have assured residents of heightened security measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Easter celebration across both states.
In Kano, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori extended Easter greetings to Christians in the state and across Nigeria, urging them to celebrate in an atmosphere of peace and unity.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place, including the deployment of personnel to worship centres and other strategic locations.
“The Command has deployed Police Personnel to all locations of worship and other strategic points to ensure peaceful celebrations,” the statement read.
The commissioner also directed all heads of departments, area commanders, divisional police officers, and other operational commanders to intensify security operations and maintain high levels of vigilance throughout the festive period.
Residents were further urged to remain security conscious and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, use emergency numbers, or the “NPF Rescue Me” application for quick response.
In Benue, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, deployed additional officers to reinforce security ahead of the Easter festivities.
Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, that the reinforcement included 14 units from 16 Police Mobile Force Squadrons and 250 personnel from specialised tactical teams.
“This strategic deployment is aimed at strengthening ongoing security operations and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state during the festive period,” the statement read.
The deployed officers have been integrated with the State Command’s tactical teams and other security agencies, focusing on dominating hinterlands, vulnerable communities, and key public spaces.
Emenari commended the Inspector-General for the timely reinforcement and reassured residents of the command’s readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information.
Benue State has recently been a hotspot for bandit attacks, with several communities experiencing killings and injuries. The deployment of additional security personnel is expected to curtail such activities and ensure residents can celebrate Easter safely.
