Police foil attack on shops, arrest six suspected thugs in Kano

The Kano State Police Command on Monday foiled an attempted attack on shops in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of the state, arresting six suspected thugs after a violent clash involving rival ‘Yan Daba groups.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command acted swiftly after receiving a distress call at about 1:20 p.m. that suspected thugs had mobilised for a clash.
“Upon receipt of the report, patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, officers observed a violent clash between suspected ‘Yan Daba groups.”
During the confrontation, the suspects reportedly vandalised an ambulance and attempted to extend the violence to nearby locations.
The situation escalated when the hoodlums turned on the police.
“They later regrouped and attacked police officers with dangerous weapons and stones. The attack was professionally repelled by the operatives,”the statement added.
The suspects then fled towards Farm Centre Market, where they allegedly tried to break into shops and loot goods.
However, reinforcement teams were quickly drafted to the scene, preventing further damage.
“The thugs were further dispersed and six suspects were arrested,” Kiyawa said.
According to the statement, normalcy has since been restored in the affected areas.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers for their response.
He praised their gallantry, restraint, and professionalism.
He noted that their actions prevented a breakdown of law and order as well as possible loss of property.
The police boss also warned against thuggery and related activities in the state.
“The Command will not tolerate any form of thuggery or disturbance of public peace in Kano State. Parents and guardians are advised to caution their wards, as anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted.”
The Command said investigations are ongoing to track down other suspects who escaped and to identify those behind the clash.
