Pope Leo XIV said he will continue to oppose war and advocate for peace, despite direct criticism from Donald Trump.
Speaking to Reuters aboard the papal plane, the Pope said the Christian message is being misused, adding that he would not engage in a personal dispute but would remain committed to his principles.
“I don’t want to get into an argument with him,” Pope Leo XIV said, stressing that the message of the Gospel should not be used inappropriately.
He reaffirmed his intention to raise his voice against war, promoting peace, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation to resolve conflicts.

The Pope also highlighted the human cost of ongoing conflicts, stating that innocent people are being killed and that there must be a better path forward.
Earlier, he called on global leaders to end wars, saying: “Enough of the worship of self and money, enough of the show of force, enough of war.”
In response, President Trump criticised the Pope, saying he was “not a big fan” and describing him as “very liberal,” while accusing him of being too lenient toward countries pursuing nuclear capabilities.
Trump reiterated his position in a social media post, stating that he does not support a Pope who, in his view, tolerates Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.
The exchange reflects growing tensions between political and religious leadership over issues of war, peace, and international policy.
