RESPONSE TO MISREPRESENTATION OF FACTS ON OYO STATE POWER PROJECTS BY THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF POWER

The Oyo State Government has taken note of recent statements by the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu, regarding the status of power projects within the State. It is imperative to set the record straight for the benefit of the public and stakeholders.

11MW INDEPENDENT POWER PROJECT (IPP)

Contrary to claims, the 11MW IPP was completed and partially operational. Approximately 5MW was successfully commissioned and supplied electricity to critical government infrastructure at the Agodi Secretariat for about five months during its testing phase.

It is important to clarify that:

The project was executed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) arrangement.

The Oyo State Government did not release capital funds to the contractor; the project was fully funded by private investment.

Any payments made were strictly for electricity consumed during the testing period and not for project execution.

The observed limitation was not generation capacity but distribution expansion, particularly to residential and commercial corridors such as the Bodija–Total Garden axis. The State Government continues to engage project partners to resolve these structural and commercial gaps.

12MW IBADAN INDEPENDENT POWER (GAS) PROJECT

As part of its forward-looking energy strategy, Oyo State has embarked on a more sustainable and technically robust project — the 12MW Ibadan Independent Power Gas Project.

Current status:

Civil works, generator base infrastructure, and ancillary facilities are well advanced.

Transmission infrastructure is progressing, including installation of concrete poles and distribution fittings across key parts of Ibadan.

The project is designed to serve not only government institutions but also strategic public facilities, street lighting, and wider economic clusters.

This project represents a shift from experimental power supply to a structured, scalable, and integrated electricity solution for the State.

While constructive criticism is welcome, it must be anchored on verified facts. The recent statement by the Honourable Minister of Power is therefore inaccurate and does not reflect the true progress of Oyo State’s power projects.
