Ado-Ekiti, April 27, 2026 (NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, officially flagged-off Gov. Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election campaign, ahead of the June 20 governorship election in the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The attendees at the flag-off included the Chairman of APC National Campaign Council, Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna, Chairman of Progressives Governors’ Forum, Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo as well as Governors Usman Ododo and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Kogi and Ondo States respectively.
Others were Governors Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, former Governors Ayo Fayose, Kayode Fayemi, Segun Oni and Niyi Adebayo.
NAN reports that the event was held at Ekiti State Pavilion on New Iyin-Ado-Ekiti Road.
In his remarks, Oyebanji said that the state had witnessed unprecedented growth in the areas of infrastructure, human capital development and social interventions through the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government’s support.
According to him, no president has ever been supportive of the state than Tinubu since the creation of the state.
“Ekiti State is blessed to have a president in person of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the helm of affairs.
“The long abandoned and very critical Ado-Ekiti-Akure and Itaure-Aramoko-Ado-Ekiti roads, among many infrastructure, have been approved and are receiving urgent attention,” he said.
The governor urged the people of the state to reciprocate the president’s kind gesture by supporting his re-election in 2027 and ensure the party’s victory in the June 20 governorship election in the state.
Also speaking, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed optimism over the party’s victory in the governorship election, citing its popularity among different ethnic groups and the existing unity among past governors in the state
Yilwatda, who described the flag-off as the beginning of a decisive march toward electoral success, praised the state’s alignment with the federal government, resulting in the various ongoing development projects across the state.
The state APC Chairman, Mr Sola Eleshin, reiterated the party’s desire to ensure a violence-free and issue-based campaign across the state.
Eleshin said the party had set a target of securing at least 500,000 votes for the governorship re-election, adding that no fewer than 5,000 canvassers had been mobilised across the state.
Uzodinma, in his remarks, called for support for Oyebanji’s re-election in order to ensure the continuity of the existing unity and peaceful co-existence in the state.
The Imo governor praised his Ekiti counterpart for promoting a new and united state through his various developmental drives, adding that the only way to ensure desired continuity was through his re-election on June 20.
The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, on his part, said the massive turnout of stakeholders reflected widespread confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership, describing him as a round peg in a round hole.
Bamidele noted that the governor had demonstrated inclusiveness, unity and grassroots connection, adding that the campaign would focus on showcasing his administration’s achievements, devoid of violence
Chairman of APC National Campaign Council described the campaign flag-off as a renewal of covenant between the government and the people of Ekiti.
Sani commended Oyebanji’s achievements in fiscal discipline, education and infrastructure, noting that over 1,000 classrooms had been rehabilitated under his administration.
On his own, Fayemi noted that Oyebanji’s performance and achievements in the last three years and seven months had silenced political critics in the state.
He appealed for continuous support of APC members in order to actualise the desired victory in the forthcoming governorship election.
NAN reports that Oyebanji and the visiting governors and party leaders had earlier paid homage to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, in his palace. (NAN)
