Suspected herders kill five in fresh Benue attack

Five people have been confirmed dead following a renewed attack in Benue State.
Suspected armed herders reportedly stormed Tse Ameen community in Mbapa Council Ward, Gwer West Local Government Area, late Saturday night, launching a violent assault on residents.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers struck while the community was asleep, leaving several casualties and others unaccounted for.
A resident, who spoke anonymously during a phone interview on Monday, revealed that five bodies were discovered the following day, while many individuals remain missing.
The source said, “Five corpses, which included three males and two females, were recovered yesterday (Sunday).”
Police authorities also acknowledged the incident but gave a slightly different casualty figure. The spokesperson of the state command, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed that four bodies had been recovered.
She said, “The incident is confirmed, four dead bodies were recovered.”
Meanwhile, Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, expressed sympathy with residents of the affected area.
Speaking while receiving recently freed abducted passengers at the Government House on Sunday, he called on security agencies to track down those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
