Three persons suspected to be behind the killing of the traditional ruler of Kwallak community in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State have been burnt to death by a mob after allegedly confessing to the crime while attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle belonging to the monarch.
The incident occurred on Friday night following the killing of the traditional ruler of Kwallak community, Ponzhi Kwallak.
The monarch was reportedly attacked and killed on Thursday night inside his residence after armed assailants invaded his home.
The attackers were said to have robbed him of his motorcycle, mobile phone and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
The killing threw the community into mourning and tension as residents launched a search for those behind the attack.
The three suspects were later apprehended while allegedly trying to dispose of the stolen motorcycle.
They were said to have confessed to the crime during interrogation by residents.
An eyewitness told journalists that some youths initially attempted to hand the suspects over to security operatives.
NAIJAONPOINT , however, said hoodlums in large numbers overpowered them and seized the suspects.
The suspects were subsequently set ablaze near the Council Secretariat.
“Members of the community caught the suspects where they wanted to sell the motorcycle and they confessed to the crime, before the angry mob descended on them and burnt them,” NAIJAONPOINT said.
When contacted by NAIJAONPOINT, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed that the matter had been reported.
“The incident has been reported, but we’re still investigating. That’s all I have to say for now,” he said.
