Nigerian Army troops have arrested a man suspected of supplying materials to terrorists and seized explosives along the Gusau–Magami road in Zamfara State.
Security sources told a security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, that the suspect was arrested at about 12:30 pm on April 23 by soldiers from the 1 Mechanised Infantry Regiment operating in Gusau Local Government Area.
He was reportedly stopped while travelling from Gobirawa Chali, allegedly on his way to deliver explosives to armed groups in the area.
According to the sources, items found with him include “394 water gel explosives, five electric detonators (No. 33), one and a half rolls of detonating cord, and a mobile phone.”
The suspect and the recovered items are now in military custody for further investigation.
The sources added that the operation is part of efforts by security forces to cut off supply routes for terrorist groups and stop the movement of explosives across the North-West.
Troops are also said to be closely monitoring the situation while continuing operations to tackle criminal activities in the region.
