Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing hub in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, in a major operation aimed at curbing the proliferation of illicit weapons in the region.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh.
According to him, the operation was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on April 22, 2026, following intelligence reports on the existence of a clandestine arms production site in Gwandanu village.
Oteh said troops conducted a precision raid on the location, leading to the arrest of two suspects who were caught in the act of fabricating firearms.
He explained that the operation resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons and equipment used in the illegal production of arms.
Items recovered, he said, include two AK-47 rifles and one G3 rifle, as well as industrial tools such as two generating sets, a welding machine, a drilling machine, a hand filler, and a complete technical toolbox.
In a related development, troops deployed at Gidan Waya in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State responded to an armed attack on members of the Forest Guards and Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
According to Oteh, troops, in collaboration with forest guards, pursued the attackers towards the Jaginde Forest axis.
He said the suspects abandoned their motorcycle and fled into the bush upon sighting advancing troops around Ungwar Maruwa.
“Troops subsequently intercepted and arrested one of the fleeing suspects. A thorough search of the criminals’ hideouts led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-49 rifle, a motorcycle, and a sleeping mat,” he said.
The spokesman noted that the arrested suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation to determine the extent of their network and possible links to other criminal syndicates.
He added that troops have intensified mop-up operations across the affected areas to recover additional weapons and apprehend fleeing suspects.
“These operations reflect the ongoing commitment of troops to restore peace and stability in the Joint Operations Area by aggressively targeting sources of communal violence and other criminal activities,” Oteh stated.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to support security efforts.
