The United Kingdom (UK) government has relaxed restrictions for the cancellations of flights due to the possible shortage of jet fuel.
It is usual practice that flights’ cancellation could lead to the revocation of take-off and landing slots.
But due to pressure on the part of the airline companies due to escalating costs of fuel and the possible shortage of supplies, the UK has granted exemption allowing airlines to cancel their flights without losing these slots.

This is a concession made by the Airport Coordination Limited responsible for managing the take-off and landing slots because, due to this new rule, airlines will be able to focus on reducing disruption rather than having near-empty flights just to retain their slots.
Although such fears prevail and although some airlines may indeed face a possible shortage of jet fuel in the future, travelers can be assured that it is unnecessary for them to change their flight arrangements.
The Department for Transport assures everyone that UK airlines do not experience jet fuel shortages.
Travellers are still advised to contact their respective airline companies before traveling to confirm they have adequate travel insurance.
It was made clear that travelers are still entitled to get refunds in case of cancellation or other flights.
Additionally, airlines are seeking to categorize fuel shortages under “exceptional circumstances,” thus rendering them exempted from paying extra costs due to last-minute cancellations.
On the other hand, there are several European air companies such as Lufthansa that have started reducing their services because of difficulties with operations.
However, things seem different in the United Kingdom, where airline companies are trying to boost traveler’s confidence.
