Controversial social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has announced a temporary withdrawal from all social media platforms, citing concerns that his content may be distracting Nigerian youths from civic engagement.
In a video shared via his Instagram handle, the outspoken critic explained that his decision was in response to allegations that his frequent posts and commentary were diverting attention away from efforts to hold the government accountable.
According to him, stepping back would allow young Nigerians to refocus on protests and broader national issues.
“Because of the allegations and accusations that it is my posts that have been distracting the Nigerian youths from holding the government accountable, I have decided to not post again on social media during this period,” he said.
VeryDarkMan named Martins Vincent Otse further challenged fellow influencers, celebrities, and activists to step into the space during his absence and drive conversations around governance, accountability, and civic responsibility.
“I would expect all influencers and celebrities and activists to use this opportunity to take over let’s watch and see,” he added.
Speaking in Pidgin to emphasise his stance, the critic made it clear that his withdrawal would be total and across all platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
He noted that the move is intended to create room for others to mobilise and sustain advocacy efforts without his influence dominating the narrative.
“I’ve made my decision that from today I am not going to be making any post on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube everywhere. I am going to leave you people, I am going to give you people time,” he said.
He also reiterated that his absence should not slow down activism but rather strengthen it, urging young Nigerians to take full responsibility for demanding accountability from leadership.
“All the protest you want to do, everything that you want to do to hold the government accountable, VeryDarkMan is going to be taking a back stage,” he stated.
