A Nigerian brother and sister now residing in the United Kingdom have opened up about their emotional relocation journey, explaining how they left Nigeria in search of safety and a fresh start.
They said their decision to move was influenced by fear, uncertainty, and the desire to live more freely without pressure or threats connected to their personal identity.
“Back in Nigeria I was always exhausted from hiding who I am. I’m not going to lie to you. But over here in the UK, I’m trying to build a life for myself,” one of them shared.
The siblings also highlighted the difficulties they faced during the asylum process, describing it as emotionally exhausting due to long waiting periods and uncertainty about the outcome.
One of them revealed that they had eventually been granted asylum after a long wait, while their brother is still going through the process.
“I also went through the asylum process and I know how stressful the waiting is. I’m really grateful I got my status. My brother stayed with me throughout all this, so I’m going to stay with him too until he makes his decision. I just want him to live in safety and not fear,” they said.
Reports of similar asylum experiences involving Nigerian nationals in the UK have continued to emerge since 2023, reflecting ongoing migration and protection-seeking patterns.
