A youth group in Delta South has called for improved representation ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the district needs leaders capable of addressing insecurity, unemployment and infrastructural challenges.
The group, under the aegis of the Delta South Youth Movement (DSYM), made the call during a meeting in Warri on Friday, where members expressed concerns over the current state of development in the senatorial district.
Speaking on behalf of the group, DSYM leader, Amos Ebiakpo, said the district requires leadership that would effectively advance the interests of the people at the national level.
According to him, future representatives should focus on issues affecting residents, including economic development, youth empowerment and access to basic infrastructure.
The group identified areas requiring urgent attention to include federal projects, support for small businesses, job creation, healthcare, education and flood control measures.
The youths said many communities in the district continue to face challenges associated with poor infrastructure, insecurity and economic hardship.
They also called for improved roads, schools, hospitals, waterways and electricity supply across the district.
The group further urged residents to critically assess candidates seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Austin Orette to discussions on issues affecting the district.
Orette is expected to contest the Delta South senatorial seat on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The youths also called for greater accountability and inclusiveness in governance, stressing the need for leadership that reflects the aspirations of the people.
