A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State, Hon. Jude Dakur, has rejected the outcome of the party’s governorship primaries that produced retired General John Sura as the party’s candidate.
Speaking to journalists in Jos, Dakur alleged irregularities during the exercise, including over-voting, result manipulation and the exclusion of some of his agents from parts of the process. He called for a rerun of the primaries in seven local government areas and the cancellation of results from Jos North Local Government Area.
According to Dakur, reports from his representatives indicated that elections did not hold in some affected areas, including Jos East, Bassa, Pankshin, Kanam and Qua’an Pan local government areas. He also alleged that figures from Jos North and Mangu local government areas were altered after the exercise, claiming that some ward results did not reflect the original records submitted by electoral officers.
Dakur further alleged that some of his agents were denied access to parts of the process, while others were assaulted during the exercise. The aspirant urged the party’s appeal committee to review the complaints and order fresh primaries in the affected areas.
He, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while the party addresses the grievances raised. The ADC has yet to officially respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
