Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Anambra State with a total of 58,566 votes.
Chairman of the 11-member ADC committee that conducted the primary election in the state, Hon. Nduaka Nworisara, who declared the results in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday, said former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, came second with a total of 17,085 votes, while the third contestant, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, scored 7,861 votes.
He stated that a total of 83,512 party members across the 326 wards in the state cast their votes during the presidential primary election.
Nworisara also stated that the party’s membership, as contained in its register, stands at 99,349.
He described the election as peaceful.
Also reacting, the party’s governorship running mate during the last governorship election in the state, Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, and the chairman of the party’s membership mobilisation committee in the state, Hon. Ben-Chuks Nwosu, commended the peaceful conduct exhibited by party members during the primaries.
Nwobu described Anambra State as the home state of the ADC and expressed confidence that the party would record impressive success in the state during the forthcoming general election.
