A dispute has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos following allegations by governorship aspirant, Princess Islamiyat Abiodun Oyefusi, challenging the outcome of the party’s primary election.
In a statement issued through her legal representatives, Platinum & Taylor Hill LP, Oyefusi alleged that she secured the highest number of valid votes in the party’s governorship direct primary held on May 22, 2026, but was later not recognised as the candidate.
The legal team further claimed that the final result declared by the party did not reflect the initial collation, alleging discrepancies in how votes were recorded and announced.
According to the statement, the situation has led to a formal legal action at the Federal High Court, where Oyefusi is seeking judicial review of the conduct and outcome of the primary election.
The lawyers also noted that prior to the exercise, issues relating to screening and internal party petitions were raised, which they say were not communicated to their client in full before the process continued.
They maintain that despite participating in the primary, their client believes the outcome did not reflect the will of delegates who took part in the exercise.
The suit is asking the court to make determinations on the validity of the process and to provide appropriate reliefs based on the findings.
The legal representatives have also urged the party’s leadership to review the conduct of the primary and address concerns raised by stakeholders within the party.
Meanwhile, they called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that only candidates emerging from what they describe as a transparent and properly conducted process are recognised ahead of the general election.
The matter is now before the Federal High Court, as the dispute over the party’s governorship ticket awaits judicial interpretation.
