Alleged Discrepancies: Akpodiete Petitions NDC Over Delta Central Senatorial Primary

Prof of Law, CyberSecurity, Digital Forensics & AI Governance And Delta Central Senatorial Aspirant on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Alexander O. Akpodiete, has formally submitted a petition to the NDC National party’s Appeals Committee over the conduct of the recently concluded primary election allegedly marred by discrepancies, Manipulation and exclusion of visible electorates during the recent primary election in Delta Central.

Daily Independent learnt this from Prof Alexander Osondu Akpodiete in a telephone conversation with our reporter today being on Sunday, May 31, 2026 as he stated that the development is in line with the petition he submitted on May 31, 2026, at the NDC National Secretariat in Abuja was made available to Journalists in Ughelli, Delta State, which included one original and five additional copies for the committee’s consideration.

Speaking after the submission, Akpodiete said he filed the petition through the party’s internal mechanisms as a loyal member committed to due process. He expressed confidence that the NDC leadership would ensure fairness, transparency, and adherence to internal democracy in handling the matter ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The professor described the petition as a good-faith effort aimed at strengthening confidence in the party’s processes and protecting the long-term success of the NDC in Delta Central. He stressed that raising concerns through appropriate channels was essential to upholding the principles on which the party was founded.

Akpodiete called on his supporters, stakeholders, and fellow aspirants to remain peaceful and patient while the Appeals Committee reviews the issues raised. He urged all parties to avoid actions or statements that could create tension or division within the party during the review period.

He also appealed to party members and social media users to refrain from posting disparaging remarks, inflammatory comments, or unverified allegations against any aspirant, official, or stakeholder. According to him, “NDC is larger than any individual and must be treated with dignity and respect”.

The senatorial aspirant cautioned against the circulation of unofficial election results, stating that only results formally released by the authorized organs of the party should be accepted as authentic. He warned that reliance on unverified figures could undermine the credibility of the process.

Prof. Akpodiete, a Professor of Law, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, and Artificial Intelligence Governance, reiterated his faith in the NDC leadership. He expressed confidence that the Appeals Committee and national leadership would give the petition fair and impartial consideration in line with the party’s principles of justice, accountability, and service to the people.
