A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Aghogho Abraham Orotomah, has called on party youths to avoid divisive political attacks and instead focus on initiatives that can improve their welfare and economic wellbeing.
Orotomah made the appeal amid political activities and controversies surrounding the recent APC senatorial primaries in Delta State, where concerns have continued to trail the growing influence of money and power in the contest.
He described the situation as a reflection of the neglect of loyal party youths amid ongoing political battles allegedly shifted to Abuja.
According to him, huge sums of money, including billions of naira and thousands of dollars, were allegedly being spent on political lobbying and consultations, while many grassroots supporters and young party members continued to face economic hardship.
Orotomah alleged that much of the money being expended during the political struggle was ending up in the hands of non-Deltans, with little or no direct benefit to local party faithful.
He further accused some political actors of deliberately refusing to empower young supporters in order to keep them dependent and politically vulnerable.
“While youths are busy insulting one another online with empty stomachs and struggling to charge their phones at charging centres, billions are being spent elsewhere,” he said.
The APC chieftain urged young party members to embrace unity, political maturity, and issue-based engagement rather than participating in personal attacks and divisive campaigns on behalf of politicians.
He also called on political leaders to prioritise youth empowerment, economic inclusion, and grassroots development as part of efforts to strengthen the party and improve the welfare of supporters.
