AWC Hails Benjamin-Laniyi, Idonije’s Appointment at Women Development Centre

The Africa Women Conference (AWC) has hailed the appointments of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development and Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as Chairman of the Governing Council.

In a statement signed by the Convener of the Conference, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, the group described the appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a reflection of competence, dedication, and commitment to women’s empowerment and national development.

AWC noted that both appointees have consistently demonstrated passion for inclusive leadership, mentorship, and social transformation, adding that they have remained strong supporters of the Africa Women Conference initiative across the continent.

The Conference also commended the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for promoting capable women into strategic leadership positions, describing the move as critical to strengthening women-focused institutions in Nigeria.

AWC further appreciated President Tinubu for sustaining and encouraging gender inclusion policies and women’s representation through purposeful appointments.

The Conference expressed confidence that the new leadership would strengthen the Centre through impactful programmes and strategic collaborations aimed at improving the lives of women, children, families, and vulnerable groups across the nation.

Other members of the Governing Council include Ms. Lois Auta, Hon. Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.
