A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State and senatorial aspirant, Hon. Abdulmumini Kundak, has raised concerns over the conduct of the party’s Bauchi South senatorial primary, alleging that the exercise was marred by irregularities and lacked transparency.
Speaking at a press conference in Bauchi on Tuesday, Kundak described the exercise as a “so-called primary,” insisting that there was no visible evidence that a proper election was conducted across the senatorial district.
He alleged that there were no identifiable polling units, voting centres, or observable delegate participation to support claims that a legitimate primary election took place.
According to him, the process was characterised by irregularities, alleged infiltration, and undue influence, while also faulting what he described as inadequate procedures governing the participation of aspirants.
Kundak said his decision to speak publicly was aimed at drawing the attention of the party’s national leadership to what he described as serious lapses in the conduct of the exercise.
He called on the APC national leadership to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding the primary and provide clarity on how the process was conducted.
The aspirant, however, stressed that his position should not be interpreted as anti-party activity, adding that he remains loyal to the APC and committed to its success.
“I will remain in APC. These are internal issues that can be resolved within the party framework,” he said.
Kundak expressed optimism that the ruling party could overcome its internal challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections if fairness, justice, and transparency are upheld in its processes.
He appealed to the APC national leadership, particularly the National Chairman, to intervene and ensure a fair resolution of the controversy surrounding the Bauchi South senatorial primary.
The chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Bauchi State, Brig. Gen. Saidu Abdulhameed (retd), had announced former House of Representatives member, Hon. Yakubu Abdullahi Shehu, as the winner of the APC primary for Bauchi South Senatorial District.
Abdulhameed said five aspirants contested the exercise, with Shehu polling 25,762 votes to defeat his closest rival, Brig. Gen. Abubakar Suleiman (retd), who scored 6,870 votes.
Other results showed Hon. Shehu Aliyu with 6,448 votes, Hon. Abdulmumini Kundak with 4,125 votes, and Ibrahim Ali Usman with 4,922 votes.
He declared Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi as the winner, having satisfied the requirements of the party’s constitution and guidelines and secured the highest number of votes cast.
