The Borno State Government has announced a temporary restriction on movement across the state during the Eid-al-Kabir celebration.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.
Naijaonpoint reports that the government said the restriction will take place from 6:00 am to 11:00 am on the day of the Eid prayers. During the period, vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles will not be allowed to move around the state.
The announcement was made as the government sent Eid greetings to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, and Muslims across the state and the country.
According to the state government, the temporary restriction was approved by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to help maintain security and ensure the smooth conduct of the Eid prayers.
Residents were advised to attend prayer grounds closest to their homes to make movement easier and help security officials carry out their duties without difficulty.
The government, however, stated that some groups would not be affected by the restriction. Security agencies, ambulance operators, emergency responders, fire service officials and workers on essential duties with valid identification would still be allowed to move during the restricted hours.
People living in the state were also asked to cooperate with security personnel stationed across the 27 local government areas. Parents were advised to warn their children and wards against actions that could lead to unrest or disrupt the peaceful celebration of the festival.
Governor Zulum also called on residents to continue praying for peace in Borno State and Nigeria. He said his administration would continue efforts toward security, rebuilding communities and helping displaced residents return to their homes.
