Three persons have been arrested by the Edo State Security Corps, ESSC, over an alleged attempt to sell a truck belonging to an Asaba-based water production company in Benin City.
DAILY POST gathered that the suspects were arrested at the Igbobi area of Benin City by operatives of the security outfit.
The Deputy Commander of the Corps in charge of Operations, Richard Balogun, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Benin City, said the suspects came from Asaba, Delta State, with the intent to sell the van and the products belonging to the company.
Balogun alleged that the suspects had already sold the 150 bags of sachet water before attempting to sell the vehicle when they were arrested.
He gave the names of the suspects as Muhammed Magaji, Muhammed Bashir and Abba Abubakar.
He said the suspects have been handed over to the police for prosecution.
It was learnt that the driver of the company’s truck, identified as Muhammed Magaji, reportedly conspired with the other two suspects to divert the 150 bags of sachet water and the vehicle to Benin City with the intention of selling them.
It was also learnt that Muhammed, who had been working with the company since May 22, 2026, allegedly diverted the truckload of sachet water meant for sales within the Asaba environs to Benin City in Edo State, where he had arranged with a buyer for the truck and the water.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that the driver and his accomplices were, however, disappointed when, upon arriving in Benin City, the supposed buyer failed to turn up.
The source alleged that after waiting endlessly, they decided to look for another buyer to dispose of the truck after selling the water.
He said that in the process of getting another buyer, operatives of the Corps were alerted and the suspects were arrested.
The driver of the vehicle, in an interview, said his accomplices called him to bring the vehicle to Benin City, saying they already had a buyer on the ground.
He said they were waiting for a buyer when they were arrested by the corps.
