The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to worship centres, recreational facilities and other public spaces as part of enhanced security measures ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
According to the Command, the deployment is aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful celebration across the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued by the PPRO, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said security operations had been intensified across the territory in collaboration with other agencies.
The statement noted that the police are working alongside the military, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Immigration Service under a joint security operation code-named “Operation Sweep FCT.”

The Command explained that the operation has been structured into strategic sectors across the territory, with continuous patrols and coordinated security actions designed to prevent and respond to criminal activity.
As part of its preventive strategy, EOD units have been directed to carry out proactive sweeps of worship centres, recreational venues and other locations expected to host large crowds during the festive period.
The police also disclosed that intelligence-led raids would be conducted on identified flashpoints and areas linked to illicit drug activity, with officers instructed to ensure professionalism and adherence to legal procedures.
Authorities say the measures are intended to strengthen public safety and ensure a hitch-free celebration in the capital territory.
