The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command, has strengthened security deployments across the nation’s capital to ensure a peaceful and safe Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has activated a coordinated joint security architecture under the code name “Operation Sweep FCT” for residents’ safety.
The agencies involved in the operation include the Nigerian Military, Department of State Services, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, and other relevant stakeholders.
The PPRO further noted that the operation was divided into strategic sectors across the territory with personnel carrying out continuous patrols and coordinated security operations aimed at deterring, preventing, and responding swiftly to any form of criminal activity.
“As part of the Command’s preventive security strategy, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD teams have also been directed to conduct proactive sweeps of designated worship centres, recreational facilities, and other venues expected to host large gatherings.
“Sustained intelligence-led operations and targeted raids on identified flash points and locations associated with illicit drug activities have equally been ordered, with clear directives that all operations must be conducted professionally and within established legal standards”, the statement added.
