Award-winning British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo has come out to officially draw the line on all things ‘Wicked,’ and she wants it on the record.
During a recent interview with Variety, Cynthia Erivo appeared emotional while playing a game based on lyrics from her past projects. After hearing the line, “you’re the only friend I ever had” from For Good, she became visibly uncomfortable and asked to move on to another question.
Cynthia Erivo said she has spent the past two years speaking about the ‘Wicked’ films. Although she still loves the project, she admitted the discussions have become repetitive.
In her words posted on X:
“Because I feel like I’ve spent the last two years talking about it, and I think that we have an opportunity to talk about something else,” she told Variety.
“And I love ‘Wicked, but I’ve just talked about it ad nauseam.”
Cynthia Erivo hinted that the backlash over claims she defended Ariana Grande from a red-carpet intruder in Singapore discouraged her from pushing for an Oscar campaign for ‘Wicked: For Good’.
The actress also suggested she is ready to move past the controversy and focus on the next chapter outside the Wicked franchise.
