As Nigerians mark three years of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labour leaders in the country have scored the government low in performance.
Citing mass hardship and economic downturn as reasons for their decision, they noted that the government had sent more people into poverty within the three years of its existence.
NLC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, however reminded Nigerians that the period should serve for reflection.
Ajaero stated that majority of Nigerians were bleeding under the weight of neoliberal policies which fortunately had been widely acknowledged by leaders.
Ajaero criticised the worsening economic hardship and insecurity across Nigeria, and warned that rising poverty, unemployment and violent attacks were eroding public confidence in governance and deepening pressure on ordinary citizens.
The labour leader accused political leaders of pursuing policies that prioritise profits over people, while millions of Nigerians struggle with inflation, rising living costs, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
Another labour leader, Comrade Victor Oriola, warned against unsustainable labour unrests, noting that growing public discontent could weaken investor confidence, increase political uncertainty and complicate implementation of ongoing economic reforms.
According to him, Tinubu’s government is mixing politics with governace, thereby worsening insecurity and rising social dissatisfaction which could discourage foreign direct investment and retard private sector expansion, particularly in sectors dependent on stable operating environments.
