Otti Secures Labour Party Ticket For 2027 Abia Governorship Election

Governor Alex Otti has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the 2027 general election after polling 368,230 votes in the party’s primary election conducted across Abia State.

Speaking after the exercise, Otti expressed appreciation to the party’s primary election committee, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Labour Party leaders for what he described as a peaceful, transparent and hitch-free process.

He congratulated other candidates who emerged in the party’s primaries for National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats, urging them to remain focused as preparations shift toward the general elections.

Otti said the conclusion of the primaries marks the beginning of a more demanding phase, stressing that candidates must now engage directly with voters and present their programmes effectively.

According to him, elections are about service, responsibility and earning the trust of the people, not just securing party tickets.

The governor called on Labour Party candidates, members and supporters to reach out to residents across Abia State and beyond, regardless of political affiliation, in order to strengthen the party’s support base and governance agenda.

He said the party must continue to promote unity and inclusiveness while sustaining development efforts in the state.

On a sombre note, Otti announced the death of Kanayo Uzuegbu, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Umuahia.

He described the late senior police officer as a committed public servant whose contributions to national service would be remembered, while extending condolences to his family and the Nigeria Police Force.

Otti reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Abia State with integrity, discipline and dedication as preparations continue for the 2027 governors
