The Lagos State Police Command has intensified security measures across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations, with a large-scale deployment of personnel to strategic locations.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
According to Tijani, the security deployment followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, aimed at ensuring adequate protection at Eid prayer grounds, recreation centres, and other vulnerable locations during the festive period.
He explained that police operatives had been stationed at worship centres, highways, motor parks, recreational facilities, critical infrastructure, linking roads, exit routes, and other strategic points across Lagos State to safeguard lives and property.
The police commissioner directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, personnel of the Police Mobile Force, and Counter Terrorism Units to intensify visibility policing and strengthen anti-crime patrols throughout the state.
Also included in the operation are officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear operatives, as well as traffic personnel.
Tijani further instructed officers to ensure effective crowd control and smooth traffic management during the celebrations while reinforcing security around entry and exit points, highways, and major city centres across the state.
He warned all officers and personnel participating in the operation to remain professional, civil, and courteous while carrying out their lawful duties.
The commissioner also congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir and wished them a peaceful, joyful, and crime-free celebration.
He equally extended goodwill messages to children across Lagos State as part of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, which coincided with the Sallah festivities.
Tijani advised children and young people to avoid violence and criminal activities, urging them to embrace positive values and remain security conscious at all times.
He also appealed to residents to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements, or activities within their communities to the nearest police station.
The police commissioner further urged travellers and motorists to cooperate with security personnel deployed on highways and other duty points to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration across Lagos State.
