Fresh fighting resumed between Russia and Ukraine on Tuesday following the expiration of a three-day ceasefire, with Ukrainian authorities reporting drone attacks on the capital, Kyiv, and casualties in the eastern Dnipropetrovsk region.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian drone strikes targeted Kyiv shortly after the truce ended, prompting air raid alerts across the city.
The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, warned residents about the presence of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles over the capital.
“Enemy UAVs are currently over Kyiv. Please stay safe until the alert is cleared,” he said in a post on Telegram.
The alert marked the first confirmed air raid warning in Kyiv since Friday, when the temporary ceasefire came into effect.
The regional military administration also advised residents to remain in shelters, noting that air defence systems could be active in response to the attacks.
Elsewhere, authorities in eastern Ukraine said Russian strikes killed one person and injured at least four others in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional military administration, disclosed that a man was killed while a woman sustained injuries in the Synelnykove district.
He added that three more people were wounded in separate attacks within the region.
Meanwhile, the Russian military claimed it intercepted and destroyed 27 Ukrainian drones after the ceasefire officially expired.
The temporary truce had been announced on Friday by Donald Trump ahead of Russia’s World War II victory commemorations.
Trump had expressed hope that the ceasefire would signal “the beginning of the end” of the conflict, which has lasted for four years.
However, even before the truce ended, both Moscow and Kyiv exchanged accusations of violating the agreement through attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
