The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has affirmed Dr. Naziru Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.
The affirmation was announced on Thursday by the Bauchi State Chairman of the party, Ibrahim Dantalle, who expressed confidence in the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dantalle noted that APGA has existed in Nigeria for many years and has recorded electoral victories in several states across the country.
He stated that the party is determined to contest all elective positions in Bauchi State during the 2027 elections, with the aim of winning the governorship seat and other political offices.
According to him, the party has presented a credible and capable candidate in the person of Dr. Naziru Tahir Bauchi, describing him as a hardworking young leader with the capacity to bring meaningful development to Bauchi State.
He further explained that other aspirants seeking the party’s governorship ticket voluntarily stepped down and agreed to support Dr. Naziru based on his competence, qualifications, and leadership qualities, while party stakeholders and members unanimously endorsed his candidature.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Naziru, son of renowned Islamic scholar late Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi, pledged to transform Bauchi State into a major business and economic hub if elected Governor.
He appreciated the party leadership and members for entrusting him with the ticket, assuring them that APGA would strongly challenge the dominant political parties in the state.
“My ambition to serve as Governor is driven by the desire to provide responsible leadership, economic growth, youth empowerment, justice, and equal opportunities for every citizen of Bauchi State,” he said.
“This movement is not just about politics; it is about rebuilding hope, restoring public trust in government, and creating a future where every citizen matters regardless of tribe, religion, or social class.”
Dr. Naziru stated that his vision is to build a peaceful, prosperous, secure, and economically independent state where citizens have access to quality education, healthcare, infrastructure, and opportunities for success.
He promised to provide transparent and accountable leadership while prioritising youth and women empowerment through sustainable development programmes.
According to him, his administration would focus on job creation, poverty reduction, education reform, healthcare improvement, agriculture and rural development, security, infrastructure, and urban renewal.
He also pledged to promote women empowerment and ensure fairness and justice in governance.
“To grow the state economy, we will encourage local and foreign investments, support industrialisation, improve internally generated revenue without overburdening citizens, promote tourism and cultural heritage, and develop ICT and innovation hubs,” he added.
Naziru assured the people of Bauchi State that he would serve with the fear of God, patriotism, and commitment to delivering practical results rather than empty promises.
“Together, we can build a state that works for everyone, youths, elders, women, farmers, traders, civil servants, and the less privileged,” he said.
