A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, backed by Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has suspended Bode George and 23 party chieftains over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued by Kayode Ogunbiyi, the chairman of the Lagos PDP disciplinary committee and the committee’s secretary, Desmond Agho, following a meeting held on Tuesday.
According to the committee, the decision was reached after reviewing a number of petitions alleging anti-party activities and deliberate violations of the party’s constitution by the affected members.
Among those affected by the suspension are Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shelle, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor, Onikepo Oshodi, and Idera Sodipo.
The list also includes Adedipe Ewenla, Bode Ogundipe, Aminu Suleiman, Roli George, Adetokunbo Pearse, Adeyemi Moyegun, Taiwo Kuye, Setonji Koshoedo, Muritala Ashorobi, Amos Fawole, and Olumuyiwa Richard.
The committee accused the affected members of fraternising with rival political parties in ways that undermine the interests of the PDP in Lagos State.
The statement said the committee reviewed petitions bordering on “anti-party activities and deliberate infractions of the party’s constitution”, adding that the actions of the affected members were considered detrimental to the party.
It further stated that the suspended chieftains would no longer participate in party affairs or represent the PDP in any official or unofficial capacity within the state pending further directives.
The committee also warned that legal action could be taken against any of the suspended members if they continue to act in ways deemed contrary to the interests of the party.
The latest development is expected to deepen the lingering crisis within the PDP, particularly in Lagos State, where divisions between supporters of Chief Bode George and allies of Wike have persisted for months.
George, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, has been one of the most vocal critics of Wike’s influence within the opposition party. The rivalry between both camps intensified last year when George was reportedly expelled by a factional National Executive Committee loyal to the Wike bloc.
The suspension marks another chapter in the ongoing leadership and ideological battle within the PDP as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
