Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has openly declared his ambition to govern Imo State in 2027, insisting that the time has come for him to take his place among former leaders of the state.
The PDP chieftain made the declaration in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during the inauguration of a political support structure known as the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy.
Anyanwu, popularly known in political circles as “Sam Daddy,” told supporters that after years of political involvement and service, he believes he deserves the opportunity to lead Imo State.
He pointed to his long-standing political relationship with other major figures in the state, noting that many of them have already had the chance to occupy the state’s top office.
According to him, fairness and political balance demand that he should now be given the opportunity to serve as governor.
He said, “We were four strong PDP members, myself, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, and Emeka Ihedioha.
“As God may have it, all three of them have ruled over Imo state, and I have remained myself. I have come to take my turn and I believe the other contestants will make space for me.”
Anyanwu also acknowledged the realities of political competition, noting that power is often fought for rather than handed over freely.
Still, he maintained that he remains focused on the bigger goal ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
“It’s true that power isn’t given, it’s taken. I’ll stay focused on the ball,” he said.
The PDP National Secretary further expressed confidence in the strength of his party in Imo, saying the opposition party is gradually rebuilding and regaining public trust across the state.
He argued that the PDP remains the most trusted platform for many residents and vowed that the party would not disappoint its supporters.
Anyanwu said: “Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united today. Our number is also growing by thousands.
“I’m saying this clearly and honestly, PDP is the only party our people really trust, and we won’t let the people of Imo down.”
He charged members of the newly launched support group to intensify grassroots mobilization, especially at the ward and polling unit levels, as preparations for the 2027 election begin to gather momentum.
Anyanwu also raised concerns about electoral malpractice, warning that his camp is already putting measures in place to monitor voting activities across polling units in the state.
He said the PDP would ensure that its agents and loyalists remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.
Anyanwu said: “Listen to me, there’s nothing they know that we do not know.
“And there’s nothing they possess that we don’t already have. No matter how they want it done, we’re up for the challenge. But we’re telling them that their tricks won’t work this time.
“We have placed our people around every polling station where they will watch over the voting process and keep the ballots safe until the results are declared in our favor.
“We have a lot of other things going on for Sam Daddy. We have the parent body, ‘Divine Mandate’.
“We have the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy. I ask you to work together with everyone to make sure the Imo people are involved in the new song.”
