A 350-bed multi-speciality hospital equipped with 24 specialist departments and supported by research, training and digital health infrastructure will come on stream next Tuesday as the Akwa Ibom State Government formally unveils the Ibom International Hospital and the larger Ibom Medical City project.
The 10-storey facility, located along the Uyo-Ikot Ekpene Road, is designed to provide advanced healthcare services while serving as the nucleus of an integrated medical ecosystem aimed at expanding access to specialist care and supporting medical tourism.
The unveiling ceremony will feature the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, as Special Guest of Honour, while the National Coordinator of the Presidential Initiative on Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, Dr Abdu Mukhtar, is also expected at the event.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the Ibom Medical City project brings together clinical services, medical education, research, accommodation, innovation and wellness facilities within a single development framework.
“The 350-bed Ibom International Hospital will provide services through 24 speciality departments and is designed to strengthen medical service delivery and expand innovation in the health sector,” the statement said.
It added that the project seeks to deliver “an integrated healthcare ecosystem that combines clinical services, medical education, research, accommodation, innovation and wellness within a single development framework.”
Beyond the hospital complex, the medical city also comprises a 100-unit residential facility for medical personnel, research and training centres, pharmaceutical and laboratory hubs, as well as digital health and wellness infrastructure intended to support advanced healthcare delivery.
According to the statement, the project is being implemented through a collaborative effort involving the Ministries of Health, Special Duties and Housing, under the supervision of Tokiye Integrated Medical Services (TIMS), a healthcare project development and management firm with operations in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The government said the initiative emerged following the endorsement of healthcare stakeholders at the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health ARISE Health Sector Town Hall Meeting held in July 2025.
It further invited stakeholders in the health sector, development partners, members of the public and the media to witness what it described as a major addition to Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure and a step towards positioning Akwa Ibom as a destination for quality medical services in Africa.
