Prominent activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has called on her supporters to remain focused on the 2027 presidential election and channel their energy towards ensuring that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, emerges victorious and is sworn into office.
Yesufu made the appeal in a message posted on her verified X account on Thursday, where she emphasised the need for unwavering commitment to what she described as the movement’s primary objective ahead of the next general election.
In her message, the outspoken activist urged her followers to avoid distractions and concentrate solely on strategies and conversations that would advance Obi’s presidential bid.
“My dear supporters, remember, we have moved on and focused on the bigger picture,” she wrote.
She further stated: “Any conversation that is not about the 2027 presidential election and how to get Peter Obi @PeterObi elected and sworn into office, please ignore.”
According to Yesufu, supporters should maintain a singular focus on the electoral process and avoid engaging in debates or controversies that do not directly contribute to the campaign efforts.
“After the 2027 General Elections we will have the luxury to respond if it is worth our time. For now we will continue with our tunnel vision on the presidential election,” she added.
The activist’s comments come amid increasing political discussions and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Peter Obi, who garnered significant support among young Nigerians and urban voters during the 2023 presidential election, remains a key figure in opposition politics and is widely expected to play a major role in the next electoral cycle.
Yesufu has long been one of Obi’s most vocal supporters, consistently advocating for his political agenda and encouraging citizen participation in the democratic process. Her latest remarks appear aimed at consolidating support around Obi’s potential presidential bid while discouraging internal disputes and distractions within the movement.
The activist recently contested the NDC primary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat but was unsuccessful in her bid to secure the party’s ticket. Despite the setback, she has continued to play an active role in political advocacy and mobilisation efforts.
